Coalition for Racial & Ethnic Equity in Development
Equal Space for Every Creed & Race
Leaders representing a range of international development and humanitarian assistance formed the Coalition for Racial and Ethnic Equity in Development (CREED) for the purpose of creating the REE pledge and learning community.
We recognize that accomplishing our vision for REE requires that we build awareness of systemic racism, institutional discrimination, western white centeredness and white privilege in the international development and humanitarian assistance industry. Our objectives are to:
The REE pledge documents our commitment, action, and accountability for achieving REE in the international development and humanitarian sector, and specifically within our own organizations.
We are dedicated to building our learning by sharing our experiences, and supporting one another in this journey. Our Learning Hub provides one such platform.
CREED has attained 501(c)(3) status via a fiscal sponsor agreement with Global Impact (TIN (52-1273585). Our 501(c)(3) status enables CREED to solicit and receive tax-deductible donations from foundations, corporations, public sector entities, and individuals in support of our mission to strengthen racial and ethnic equity in the international development and humanitarian assistance sector.
Global Impact works on charitable ventures to inspire greater giving. They serve as a trusted advisor, intermediary and implementing partner across the private, nonprofit and public sectors. Through these partnerships, they have raised nearly $2 billion for causes such as disaster relief and global development.
Founded and chaired by Indira Kaur Ahluwalia, CREED is led by leaders of U.S. registered and based organizations from the international development and humanitarian assistance sector.
The CREED Board's Executive Committee is composed of seven organizations who were amongst CREED's founding organizations and served as the original CREED core team.
Led by Board members, four additional Board Committees lead core CREED activities:
Please reach out if you are interested in working on any CREED activities.
Membership is by organization (not individual) and requires executive leadership's commitment to CREED and the organization becoming a signatory of the REE Pledge. Organizations join CREED on a rolling basis when they sign the REE Pledge.
CREED offers three signatory tiers with varying responsibilities including leading and participating in Board Committees and Task Teams; developing and participating in the CREED signatory and learning events; and supporting CREED initiatives and functions.
Signatories are invited to donate annually to support CREED's operations.
The Board Executive Committee is composed of executive and senior leadership from seven member organizations. With responsibilities for governance, representation, liaison, and communications as well as for leading the development of the pledge and a learning community, the Executive Committee is committed to CREED's goals.
